Killara Rise Simmental Stud started in 1987, when Nichole’s love of cattle saw her win a Simmental heifer at the Melbourne Shows’, State Junior Judging Competition. The herd originated in he hills of the Yarra Valley, in Victoria, then after marrying a fellow Dookie Agricultural graduate, moved to Finley, NSW. Since then the herd has grown to over 140 purebred females.

Over the years the focus has been on structural soundness, fertility, temperament and market driven carcase traits.  Our bulls are widely used in both vealer and yearling steer and heifer systems. Run over various beef and dairy cross herds, the excellent weight for age calves and high yielding carcases are regular sale toppers across several states. Steers produced from the Killara Rise program are also keenly sought after by feedlotters.

The herd comprise of both Polled and Horned cattle of various bloodlines. In recent years a bull named “Buckingham Usher”, has been used extensively within the herd. A well known Internationally recognised A.I. accredited sire and Australian Champion, this bull has one of the highest eye muscle areas for the Simmental Breed.

The female progeny are an ideal combination of Buckingham Usher’s length and muscle and Killara Rise’s fertility, maternal milking ability and temperament.

The herd is kept in a commercial environment so as to handle the various climatic and regional resources of areas such as the Victorian Peninsula, Dubbo Plains and Southern Queensland. This ideology has helped the durability and longevity of the Killara Rise bulls and females. Numerous breeding females are between 11 years and 17 years old and continue to produce single and twin calves year in year out. There excellent milking attributes ensure profitable vealers and excellent growth for age calves.

The herd maintains a MN2 status (Johnes Free) allowing our cattle to travel throughout various states.

Recently our bulls and females have been hand picked for breeding programmes in Russia and Indonesia. The females were selected on their femininity and structural soundness, while the Indonesian delegates applauded our bull’s length, muscle and quiet temperaments.
